Old Home

Welcome

This is a place for me to share my thoughts and experiences, my meanderings and my musings as I walk through this wonderful world, finding faith and a sense of place.

My time in retirement has become for me, an exciting mixture of old and new, familiar and strange, comforting and challenging. So much has changed.

I offer these reports and reflections here – so as not to lose them to my flaky memory, to use writing to clarify and cultivate them, and to make them available for those who might have an interest.

Why Granite Roots?

It all started back in 2005 on a solo trip to Amsterdam. I had a profound experience at the Homomonument. I sat looking at flowers left in memory of those who had died and felt very strongly with a sense of contentment, that I belonged as a gay man.

I then began thinking of the pink granite of the monument and how my roots stretched back to jersey with its pink granite. I am gathering other connections too – to the Cheviot Hills of the border with Scotland and most recently to Mount Siniai.
