This is a place for me to share my thoughts and experiences, my meanderings and musings as I walk through this wonderful world, finding faith and a sense of place.
It springs from a desire not to lose the thoughts and insights which surface through my often chaotic mind. I hope the discipline of writing will help to clarify and cultivate these thoughts. Over time I want this to be less a blog and more my digital garden.
You’ll also find here records and insights from my family history research and how I’m remodelling my garden into what I hope to be a haven of peace where I can grow fruit, vegetables and flowers.
It’s a work in progress so don’t expect perfection.

Walking
I have always loved walking, indeed looking back I recognise it’s the best way of helping me to think. As I prepared for my retirement, I was certain that walking was going to be a big part of what I wanted to do.
Musings
Often when I’m walking random thoughts and ideas pop into my head – some of them are worth cultivating.
Why Granite Roots?
It started back in 2005 when I visited the Homomonument in Amsterdam and decided pink granite was symbolic of who I am . It has taken me a lot of years to actually use the domain name I first got then for anything useful
The Garden
I have always wanted to grow vegetables and fruit so back in 2019 I began to transform the garden. So far I have dug up the lawn, built a greenhouse, laid out beds and a new seating area. It remains a work in progress
Family History
It may be a stereotypical retirement thing but not only have I found out loads about ny ancestors I feel much more connected to the town where I live in a totally new way.
